Shirley Shalit Scholarship - $1,000

The Shirley Shalit Scholarship was established to honor lifelong Morristown resident and Morristown High School alumna, Shirley Domb Shalit (Class of ’39). Shirley grew up in Morristown on Washington Avenue.  She loved to read and walked to the town library to absorb everything she could on the shelves.  In 1942, she married Nathan Shalit. After having two children, she enrolled at Drew University and ultimately graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.  After graduation, she went on to work for text book publisher, Silver Burdett, where she became a senior social studies editor.  Shirley had a lifelong love of learning and literature which her daughter, Barbara, chose to honor with the establishment of this scholarship in her name.
