Description:

The Morristown Animal Hospital Animal Welfare Scholarship is awarded to a graduating Morristown High School Senior in the amount of $1,000. The Morristown Animal Hospital has been caring for animals in Morristown and neighboring communities since 1915. David Matalon, VMD has been the owner and chief veterinarian since 2005. David lives and works in Morristown and his children have been educated in the Morris School District.  David believes in giving back to the community and established this scholarship to encourage and support a graduating senior from Morristown High School in pursuing a career in animal welfare.

Criteria:

This scholarship will be open to all students entering a 2-4 year program in animal science, biology, veterinary medicine or technology with the intention of working with animals as a career. Other animal-related pursuits such as canine law enforcement will also be considered. The scholarship must be used to pay tuition at an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university. Students must demonstrate an active devotion to animal welfare.  Examples include veterinary assistant, shelter volunteer, wildlife rehabilitator, clubs/activism related to animal health, 4H.

To be considered for this scholarship, the Morristown High School senior must:

  • Submit a complete MEF Common Scholarship Application online
  • Apply to and/or been accepted by an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university
  • Plan to study an animal welfare related career in college
  • Demonstrate an active devotion to animal welfare

Application Requirements:

  • MEF Common Scholarship Application with current transcript
  • Completed Supplemental Question (500 words or less):
    • Describe how you became interested and involved in animal welfare, what you have learned about yourself by advocating for animals and how you plan to advance animal welfare through your activities, career, activism or volunteer work.
  • Provide one letter of recommendation that addresses why this student should be chosen for this scholarship.
