About the Morris School District

The Morris School District serves the communities of Morristown and Morris Township (pre-K through high school) and Morris Plains (grades 9-12) by providing a supportive and challenging educational environment for a total student population of approximately 4,800. Within the District there is one preschool, three primary schools (K-2), three intermediate schools (3-5), one multiage magnet school (K-5), one middle school (6-8), and one high school.

In addition to our pre-K-12 program, the Morris School District operates an innovative Community School that offers an extensive adult school curriculum for lifelong learners. The Community School also provides a nurturing before and after-school childcare program, Sunrise Sunset, for Morris School District children of busy parents.

In spite of its success, the Morris School District, like all others in the state and across the nation, is confronted by the ever-increasing challenge of funding public education. Escalating costs, expanding enrollment and decreasing state aid must be offset by alternative sources of funding if the District is to maintain the extraordinary range and caliber of academic, extra-curricular, athletic and social opportunities which have been its standard.

While colleges and universities, private, parochial and independent prep schools have long relied upon private endowments and contributions to sustain or expand programs, school taxes historically have been the only source of revenue for public education. Independent of the Morris School District, the Morris Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation that seeks to attract private resources to support a variety of educational programs that tax dollars do not cover. Through effective solicitation and distribution of funds, the Morris Educational Foundation helps enable the District to continue to be the model of visionary social and educational leadership it has been since its inception.
